My 3 Weeks Here

Arriving in Abu Dhabi, the atmosphere is distinctly more regal and understated than its neighbor Dubai. Checking into the legendary Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental ($950/night), I walked through cavernous halls adorned with 24-karat gold leaf, crystal chandeliers, and imported Italian marble. My butler welcomed me with their signature Palace Cappuccino sprinkled with genuine 24k gold flakes (110 AED) on the grand terrace overlooking a private kilometer-long white sand beach.

My first pilgrimage was to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Dressed in a flowing emerald silk abaya, I stepped onto the world's largest hand-knotted Persian carpet beneath 82 gleaming Macedonian white marble domes. The optical majesty of seven 24k gold-plated Swarovski crystal chandeliers and floral mother-of-pearl inlays reflecting in surrounding azure mirror pools was utterly breathtaking in its spiritual grandeur.

Next, I headed to Saadiyat Island to visit the Louvre Abu Dhabi (63 AED). Architect Jean Nouvel's floating silver geometric dome created a mesmerizing 'rain of light' across white galleries surrounded by the turquoise Persian Gulf. Viewing masterpieces by da Vinci, Monet, and ancient Mesopotamian artifacts bridging Eastern and Western civilizations was intellectually exhilarating.

For lunch, I dined at Fouquet's inside the Louvre, savoring duck confit and black truffle rigatoni (380 AED) before escaping on a sunset kayak tour through the serene Jubail Mangrove Sanctuary ($35), spotting pink flamingos wading peacefully through crystal shallows.

Dinner that evening was at Hakkasan inside Emirates Palace, indulging in Peking duck with Beluga caviar and jasmine tea-smoked wagyu ribs (650 AED). Abu Dhabi blends royal Arabian splendor with cultural refinement in a way that feels utterly effortless.
